We have searched for comparable ribbons and have only been able to find 2 other examples of this design currently in collections. There might be more but we just do not know. This design is the mate to the Pierce FP-1 in Fischer which is also exceedingly rare. Our conversations with several specialist indicate this ribbon should be considered one of the best designs of all known 19th century ribbon because of its importance and rarity. We cannot disagree with this view and believe it certainly should be in the top 10 of all known 19th century ribbon designs. The only time, to our knowledge, this design has auctioned was when the Chick Harris example sold for $10,700 in 2000. That example was in very similar condition although this example appears to have an edge in condition. We are honored to be able to offer a different example of this ribbon. It demands a place with serious collectors. Absolutely great condition with remnants of sewing threads top and bottom where gently sewn/tacked at one time long ago. It would be hard to top the condition of this example with known or for that matter unknown examples that might be out there. It is that good. About 5 ¾” overall. Estimate: $10,000-12,500
